Bilaal Hoosein has been working in the media for two decades. With a background in political science and a strong interest in the Middle East, he moved to the region early on. His experience in television began as a professional news cameraman and video editor, covering the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Based in South Africa, he has travelled extensively on the African continent as a journalist. His work has taken him from covering the plight of child soldiers in Sierra Leone to war-stricken Somalia and the frozen plains of Antarctica.
In 2005 he started his own video production company with a focus on documentaries, sales and acquisitions for the international broadcast market. His passion has always been training and development for the youth of the Global South.
In 2010 he moved to Qatar to join Al Jazeera English as Head of Documentary Acquisitions.
In 2017 he took over as Director of Programmes and currently oversees documentaries, a number of talk shows and magazine programmes for the Channel.
