Promoting awareness and respect

The Public Liberties and Human Rights Centre aims to be a leading media source in promoting the values of human rights and press freedom.

We aim to pioneer a media movement leading to the consolidation of human rights and public liberties and the promotion of their values and principles.

Our editorial team is spread across Al Jazeera’s network, and produces original in-depth human rights focused content on all our platforms and in multiple languages. Our research section campaigns to defend press freedoms through our partnerships with International NGOs, and our safety and security team provide crucial training for all Al Jazeera staff operating in hostile environments.

We do more than just tell the stories

The Public Liberties and Human Rights Center is headed by Sami Alhaj, the Al Jazeera cameraman who was wrongfully imprisoned in Guantanamo bay for over six years. For us, protecting human rights isn’t just part of our profession; it’s personal.
